LIPS - March 25, 2008

What a way to spend Easter!  Easter Brunch at Lips with gospel singing drag queens!  It was great!  They put so much energy into the show and really did sing some great gospel music!

Some friends invited me over to see their new apartment in Wilton Manors and suggested we do brunch at Lips and see the show.  The price was $16.50 to order a standard brunch item off the menu and all the champagne and mimosas you could drink.

The show started at noon as advertised (and not drag queen time).  It started with a very high energy gospel song and then only go better and better.  The MC, Nicolette was great and had a great rapport with the audience. She knew exactly who she could tease and who she couldn’t and she kept everyone in stitches throughout.  It was a mixed crowd with some people with their children.  It was just risque enough and not too much, even with the kids.

The food was pretty good considering the chef had to get everyone’s meal ready at the same time.  The servers were in drag also.  The menu selection was amazing from salmon and cream cheese on a bagel, Eggs Benedict to steak and eggs.  What topped it all off was my friends paid for the meal so I had a thoroughly enjoyable Easter with good friends, good entertainment, and enough champagne!

Lips advertises they have bar/restaurants in New York, California, and, of course Oakland Park.  The Oakland Park place is not open on Mondays but otherwise, Tuesday-Sunday.  The entertainment varies but Sunday is their gospel brunch.  If you get a chance, it is well worth the trip.
