Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park Near Gainesville, Florida

Paynes Prairie Preserve was Florida’s first preserve in 1971.  The famed botanist William Bartram first visited it in 1774 and referred to it as the great Alachua Savannah (Gainesville is in Alachua county).  There are serveral hiking trails, a campground and two ponds and Lake Wauberg. It is also a National Natural Landmark.
