This was, without a doubt, the best opera I’ve seen anywhere. The FGO production was outstanding. I’m not particularly fond of Mozart’s operas but this was great. The cast was outstanding, the orchestra played better than I’ve ever heard, and the direction and staging was excellent.
An interesting note to the Commendatore. He was played by Morris Robinson, who like me, came late to opera - me in attending, him in performing. He started singing professionally in his 40’s after a career as a professional football player.
It will be hard for Florida Grand Opera to top this production any time soon.
The image is from the Soul of Miami web site but I suspect it was provided by the Florida Grand Opera.
