MOZART’S THE ABDUCTION FROM THE SERAGLIO (Die Entführung aus dem Serail ) - October 17, 2009 - San Francisco War Memorial Opera House

The story of Belmonte who is seeking his love, Constanze, who has been captured by pirates and sold to the Pasha.

Osmin, the servant of the Pasha is angry at his treatment and agrees to help Belmonte.  Eventually, Belmonte is caught and tells that his father will pay the ransom for him and Constanze but Belmonte’s father is the mortal enemy of the Pasha.  He condemns him to death but in the end, sets both Belmonte and Constanze free.

I’m not a great fan of Mozart’s operas.  I don’t think they play well in today’s times, but this was well done and tolerable to sit through.  The voices were not, in my opinion, the strongest but it could just be Mozart.

The image is from the web site www.musicalcriticism.com, but I suspect it is originally from the San Francisco web site at www.sfo.org.
