I have no idea why, but this is my favorite of the four operas. My friend Wade suggests it may be that it is more melodic than the other three. Jay Hunter Morris made an excellent Siegfried and the rest of the cast were amazing. This one clocked in at four hours and 50 minutes with two intermissions. Perhaps the highlight of the staging was Fafner as the dragon. Out comes a mechanical monster with some neat movements. I was a little put off by the trailer (see the photo above from the San Francisco Opera website (www.sfopera.com) but otherwise, the set was excellent. My complaint was not necessarily the trailer but when the actors went into the trailer, it affected how you heard their voices.
