Dog Sledding to Granite Hot Springs - January 19, 2015

Jackson Hole, Wyoming

While on a Tauck Tour to Yellowstone and the Tetons, I got a chance to try my hand at dog sledding.  For the first part of the trip, I was in the sled.  About halfway to Granite Hot Springs, I got out and was able to stand on one of the runners as the dogs mushed on to Granite Hot Springs.

I knew something was up when the lead driver introduced me to my driver and said “I think he’ll be OK.”  I was under the impression Kevin was learning the ropes. It turns out he had 30 minutes of instruction and was a tourist like me.  He is in his residency for anesthesiology.  He was pretty good and only almost wiped us out once when the sled turned sideways.

On the way back, it was Kevin’s sister who did the mushing (I rode in the sled the entire way).  She is an otolarygnologist.  She almost wiped us out on a curve on the way to the dog kennels.

This is a great trip and well worth the cost and time.
