National Elk Refuge - January 18, 2015

The National Elk Refuge is comprised of 24, 700 acres with an elevation between 6,200 feet and 7, 200 feet in the valley known as Jackson Hole (the town is Jackson).  This was my second visit to the refuge and 40 years ago, I remember the weather being exactly the same: cold, wind, snow, and rain.  The only difference is 40 years ago, we fed them alfalfa.  Today, they are fed pellets.  At any one time there are 6,000-7,000 elk in the refuge, but the Fish and Wildlife Service only wants 5,000.

See if you can see the brief glimpse of the largest elk in the herd (based on tines of antlers).
